“Sadly, all too often, scientists (who should know better) fall in love with a hypothesis and set up an experiment to confirm it instead of trying to falsify it. Then when their machinations fail and the experiment is a bust, they try to put a good face on and make like the experiment really showed what they wanted it to show all along. Just as there is no doubt a bias in the mainstream news media, sad to say, there is also a bias in the mainstream medical scientific media. Most academic nutritional researchers hold [the following] near and dear to their hearts; Eating saturated fat = elevated cholesterol = heart disease.” Dr Michael R. Eades, M.D.

Each year approximately 5-20% of U.S. residents get the flu and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized for flu-related complications. Most people who get the flu feel much better within one or two weeks. Most healthy adults can infect others one day before symptoms develop and five to seven days after symptoms appear. What are common complications from the seasonal flu? Some people, especially young children and people with weakened immune systems, might be contagious longer.
DID YOU KNOW Cold and flu share many similarities, but they are two distinct conditions. The American Academy of Family Physicians says more than 200 viruses cause colds, but few viruses cause the flu. If someone in your household is sick, prevent germs from spreading by providing separate (or disposable) cups and towels in the kitchen and bathroom. Many contagious diseases are transmitted by touch. The simple friction that occurs when you rub skin against skin while using hot water and soap, followed by drying, gets rid of potentially harmful germs.

Processed foods are more convenient – that’s what it comes down to. It’s so much easier to bake a cake by opening up a box, pouring out a dry mix, and adding an egg and some oil than starting from scratch. About 90 percent of the money that Americans spend on food is used to buy processed items. The problem is, most processed foods have a laundry list of ingredients similar to that of a can of paint.

At the turn of the century, folk medicine was viewed as a practice used by poverty stricken communities and quacks. However the rejection of synthetic or biomedical products has become a growing trend in Western society and allowed for a rise in the demand for natural medicines. When less developed countries are taken into account it is estimated that over 50% of the world’s population relies on folk medicine practices. The prevalence of folk medicine in certain areas of the world will vary based on cultural norms. Chinese herbology, for instance, has very much taken traction in the NY area. Much of today’s modern medicine though is previously based on plants that had been long used in folk medicine.
